Peace and blessings y’all. @bikingwithbaddies and @heckofthenorth presented an incredible opportunity and sponsored three riders to register for their annual gravel bike race in Two Harbors, MN. And, this event was much more than any of us could’ve ever hoped for; It was simply incredible. It included camping at a stunning 20 acre farm not far from the gravel race start and ending point, Castle Danger Brewery. We arrived at the farm the evening prior and were welcomed by some phenomenal volunteers and a bonfire which included s’mores. The farm set the scene for a piercing full moon, a beautiful sunrise, and brilliant fall colors. Thank you to our hosts as well as the volunteers at the gravel race checkpoints, who were amazing. I want to extend my sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone who assisted in making the event a success. The Heck of the North Gravel Cycling Classic is one of Minnesota's most storied and rugged fall gravel cycling races. The gravel ride was beautiful along the North Shore. It included stunning autumn foliage, demanding terrain, stream crossings, wet and slippery mud sections, as well as epic rock garden inclines and descents. It was truly the Heck Of The North. After the race we got some BBQ in Two Harbors and it was super delicious. I highly recommend the loaded Mac and Cheese with Brisket. However, after a long day in the saddle only a loaded baked potato with Brisket will do. After dinner and hanging out with some of other jazzed up race participants, we packed up the vehicle and headed back to the Twins Cities. It was surreal feeling knowing we had just accomplished something special. And, I was very thankful I had good people with me for the ride. The 100-mile Heck Of The North gravel route was exhausting and exhilarating all at the same time. I am simply amazed and impressed by the athletes that took this year’s gravel race podium.
