I’m not great at taking pictures, but they’ve done a beautiful job, lots of cool seating/viewing areas along the river. Just needs some time to build in some shade from trees, I noticed only one sheltered area. I hope they have some plans to improve the death trap along N 2nd St that still exists from 26th to 33rd Ave. Overall, a significant improvement and why I love this city! I used to avoid this biking this area, now I am excited to bike this new trail along with the extension to 26th from Ole Olson Park.

My wife and I moved up to the Saint Paul area at the end of last year and I’ve been looking to get to know people! I love cycling and have been enjoying the trails around Saint Paul, but definitely consider myself a causal, beginner type cycler. I am looking to join a women‘s cycling group and was wondering if anyone knows of any in the area? Thanks!

I am looking to do a short tour from the St. Paul amtrak station to the La Crosse station along USBR 45. Does anyone have some advice? We would prefer hotels to camping. What is the traffic like along this route?

I’ve just started cycling this summer and am looking for more trails/routes from golden valley in the 15-20 mile range. I’ve done the above, medicine lake, and cedar lake trail. Looking to keep it fresh.
I also prefer a loop of some sort over an out and back.
I plan on driving to a few trail heads but leaving from home is just much easier on week nights.

Image details: Bush Lake (Hyland Preserve), Shady Oak Beach, Lake Nokomis, Cedar Lake
It's getting hot, and I need to spend my free time by the water. I've been able to bike to a few lakes in the metro area and with the exception of Bush lake in Bloomington, I would bike again to all the other places. Special shoutout to Shady Oak for being very bike-accessible despite being in the suburbs. Although Bush Lake was great, biking to Bloomington from Uptown left a lot to be desired and I probably won't be heading back there any time soon.
Remaining places on my list that I plan on biking to via majority trails:
What other lakes that are bike-accessible that I might be missing out on? Open to suggestions for bike-friendly overnight camping locations too! Thanks y'all!
Edit: Added Lake Harriet to the to-bike list. Also forgot to share this earlier but I drove to Antlers Park in Lakeville and had the worst time on the water. Lakes with Jetski activities are automatically on my shit list now that I know.

Anyone know good spots around the Twin Cities for VO2 max / interval training on a road bike? Looking for somewhat flat roads with low traffic and minimal stops. Trying to avoid constantly braking during efforts lol

Wooddale Ave S in Edina (between 50th and Valley View) is being repaved this summer and the last chance for input is June 2nd.
This is our chance to get a protected bike lane that actually works. Not paint. A real barrier.
You don’t have to live in Edina to show up or send an email. Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, anyone who uses this corridor - your voice counts. There are council members that are on board with it, they just need some extra support. You can email them on the city website
Better yet, you can give community comment on June 2 @ 7PM — Edina City Hall or call in via YouTube
Let’s make Wooddale less terrible!

I'd ask why nothing is being done about it, but MPD is too busy parking on the sidewalk on Nicollet Mall or acting as security for shoplifters chain grocery stores.

Anybody know if there's any plans to repave after this round of utility work on 28th and 26th?
I know some of the construction in the Wedge is good pedestrian stuff (bump outs and what not), but 28th past Lyndale has been pretty treacherous for us recently, and I was driving on 26th the other day watching guys dodge and weave around cones, potholes, covered holes, and all sorts of other crap.
Obviously construction has to happen during the warmer months, but do we have any idea when it's all supposed to be over?

I never use this store, but there was an accessory I needed that I could literally not find anywhere else online. Anyway when I added it to my cart and checked out, it automatically added another item called "free returns and package protection." I have seen a few other places that do this in the last few years. If you remove it it tells you "By deselecting, you're liable for return shipping and package theft or other shipping issues."
It's crazy this is even legal to add something to your cart without your consent. I did submit a complaint to the AGs office. anyway watch out for it!

I'm balancing my grumblings about poor infrastructure (looking at you Bryant Ave north of Lake St) with sharing my appreciation to the folks responsible for some of my favorite bike facilities (Hennepin Ave, Bryant Ave, Plymouth Ave).
I visited Florida recently to see my family and checked out some of the bike infrastructure in Central Florida. It is Florida, so most of it was recreational trails. However, there was a particular trail that does go directly to a fairly dense area with housing, recreational facilities, and plenty of restaurants. I emailed the mayor and county reps afterwards to compliment them on the intentional planning with my usual advocacy (eliminating parking minimums would do wonders for that area). I got a hopeful response from the mayor and it turns out she sets a goal for herself to bike at least four days a week for transportation and she's supportive of eliminating parking minimums but going up against a city council that isn't.
Anyways, I wanted to share this just in case there's others out there who likes to yap and send emails like me. HAPPY NATIONAL BIKE TO WORK DAY Y'ALL!

I completely get the hype about East Bush Lake. The water clarity is insane, albeit, you'll be seeing and feeling the seaweed versus just feeling them at Cedar Lake. On my ride home, there was a biker riding in the opposite direction also hauling his paddle board. Bonus: saw a scooter rider scootering home a TREE. Y'all are some real micro-mobility homies!

Hello. I’ve been a part of Minneapolis cycling for a while now. I love the group ride scene. Truly the community is awesome. I’ve noticed though that it’s like, really white. Really, really, white.
I get that it’s just the reality of being a person of color and living in Minnesota, but are there group rides that focus on connecting people of color in the cycling community? Every group ride is so white it actually gets to be a little uncomfortable if im being honest. I just kinda deal with it but it would be nice if there was an alternative.

If you need a little break from the Art A Whirl chaos, sift thru it with a handful of fellow neighbors/cyclists. Ending the ride at MBP, but on the way there, trying to show off a few of my favorite hyper-local beaver watching spots. Haven't seen many beavers lately, but the sunset is usually righteous!

....also swam from one side to the other and back after I docked my paddle board. don't be like me and get there so late and have to swim back across in the dark. it was truly a do or die (of embarrassment) moment.

Some good stuff happening over at Bike Streets for the Twin Cities map. Come chat about routes and track your commutes. NE folks - we could use your help to expand the NE portion of Minneapolis. I know for me as an Uptown resident, NE is kind of a mystery to me despite the many businesses I'd like to visit there.
You can add suggestions via the web-app or the mobile app. Click on "Suggestions" tab to see the current routes suggested.

The South Minneapolis Petals are
hosting a community bike ride, raffle, and social to support our local queer-focused community center, Queermunity! We'd love for you to join us and donate if you're able.
Queermunity, like many other businesses, has struggled during Metro Surge, but they still provided a safe and inclusive place to meet for many organizing groups (including the Petals) during that time. We want to help pay it back by fundraising as much as we can during this ride.
Saturday, May 16th, 2026
Meet at Bryant Square Park: 10am
Bike ride around the lakes: 10:15am-11:30am
Social time & snacks at Queermunity: 11:30am-12:30pm

"In May, routine bridge maintenance will take place on two Dakota Rail Regional Trail bridges. The affected bridges are the Arcola Bridge in Minnetonka Beach and Orono, and the Seton Channel Bridge in Spring Park and Mound. The project includes removal and replacement of the wingwalls and approaches at each end of both bridges.
Each bridge will be impassable while the project is taking place, so segments of the regional trail will be closed until work is complete. The following is the project timeline and affected areas of the trail:
Trail users should use alternate routes around the affected areas during the project. Inclement weather could affect the project timeline. View a map of the project location and affected trail segments."

As you can see from the photo, the yellow portion of the Luce Line trail is closed. As in, the bridges are out, full stop you are not getting through. You can seem in orange my ad-hoc detour but it’s not very bike friendly (and may have involved someone’s backyard). You WILL NOT learn this information from the Hennepin Co or Three Rivers websites, both of which have info about closures but NOT this one. Doesn’t look at all temporary either.

msp.bike is a great resource for finding cycling groups, but I’m specifically in search of riding with young adults (ages 20-30). This is my first summer in MN, and I’m really excited to try out my new gravel bike and would love to meet and bike with people around my age. I’m by no means advanced, but I’ve been seriously mountain biking for a few years, just fairly new to gravel. I just want to ride, have fun, and find community!
Please share if you know any groups that are predominantly young adults or if you have tips on how to meet young adult riders!

Hey everyone,
I want to share a free, community ride my friend and I organize each year: Bike to Duluth! 🚴♂️
It’s exactly what it sounds like—a one-day ride from the Twin Cities up to Duluth—and this year is our 3rd annual event. We keep it simple, welcoming, and totally free. Just sign up, ride, and be part of a great group of people taking on the challenge together.
📅 Date: June 27, 6:00 AM
📍 Start: Father Hennepin Bluffs Park (mass start)
📝 Registration opens: April 25
Our main goal is simple: get more riders involved and build something awesome.
We’re also looking for sponsors (prizes, gear, or small cash support), so if you or someone you know might be interested, every bit helps—and honestly, even just checking out the pages or sharing goes a long way.

My YouTube feed popped up this short video about Seattle's new Waterfront Greenway. One nice feature highlighted in the video was a cyclist signal that not only automatically detected a cyclist, it had an indicator to the cyclist informing them that they were detected.
Does Minneapolis have any of these anywhere? I know of one cycling signal at the intersection of 18th Ave SE and Como Ave SE in the Como Neighborhood. But there is no indication to the cyclist the the signal has registered their presence. You just have to just hope and wait till the signal cycles. Even more annoying is that the signal only shows on the southbound side. The signal can be green and the northbound side doesn't know it.
So has anyone seen any automatic cyclist signals that inform the cyclist that their presence is registered around town? It seems like a very small but useful improvement. Stopping to press a beg button is very annoying.

Moving truck parks in protected bike lane (and facing wrong direction), then just drives right over bollards (they are now damaged/bent) to get out. There's an entire street of parking just to the right. 311 says there is nothing they can do even with video evidence of the truck damaging city property. Why even have the bollards?

It's been so nice riding the now-open section of Kenilworth/Cedar Lake trail between Uptown and downtown! However, it seems that over the weekend an encampment has formed on the Cedar Lake trail going into downtown -- right by the intersection with Van White/Bassett Creek Valley Station. Saw 2 guys with at least one tent, some bikes, some wagons and maybe other things. Some of it was blocking part of the trail.
I understand they are in difficult circumstances to end up there but I do feel that the city should not allow this public space to be taken over by an encampment that makes the space less functional for what it is -- a bike trail where everyone should be able to feel safe. Any thoughts on how we can approach this as a community? Is there some way we could get the city to help out that would prevent a larger encampment from forming and help keep the area safe and pleasant for all?

https://www.movemn.org/updated-lyndale-design-released-take-action-now/
Thanks to dedicated advocacy from our Livable Lyndale campaign, Hennepin County has abandoned a misguided and chaotic design for the reconstruction of Lyndale Avenue South. The updated design makes promising progress toward improving the safety and comfort of people biking, walking, rolling, and taking public transit along this critical corridor. And, we need to continue to call on the county for critical adjustments to the plan before it’s finalized.
Launched in 2023 and led by local Move Minnesota staff and volunteers, Livable Lyndale has mobilized powerful community support for a street design that puts people first. Together we’ve advocated for a Lyndale where it is easy to bus, bike, walk, and roll so that a once-in-a-generation reconstruction of this vibrant Minneapolis street will cultivate neighborhood connection, boost local businesses, and safeguard our climate future. Through consistent public rallies and the collection of over 2,400 petition signatures, 1,550 postcards, and 250 personal stories, our advocacy has had a big impact on the project.
The updated design takes exciting steps toward the vision we’ve advocated for, including a two-way protected bike lane and dedicated bus lanes throughout parts of the corridor, wider sidewalks with patios for businesses, and green boulevards. These improvements will help create the space needed for people to safely travel along Lyndale and enjoy their time out and about connecting with neighbors or patronizing local shops and restaurants. Importantly, the design is a major upgrade from the previously proposed shared use path, which would have crowded people walking, rolling, and biking into one shared lane.
But Hennepin County’s plan is missing key elements to protect the safety of people biking, walking, and rolling through one of the city’s most hazardous corridors—despite the county’s own goal of eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries on county roads. The bike lane ends partway through the project at W 28th St, forcing people who bike to choose between navigating pedestrian traffic and crowding into a road designed for cars. And, the Lyndale and W Lake St intersection, which records the highest number of car crashes with pedestrians in the county, is still wide open to dangerous collisions.
Route 4 bus riders deserve quick, convenient transit across Lyndale, but the design includes just two blocks of dedicated bus lanes and three blocks of a vague “future transit ready lane” that’s currently designated for parking. Adding a dedicated, all-day bus lane throughout the corridor is essential to improve the speed and reliability of service, prepare for the coming Lyndale Bus Rapid Transit Line, and work toward mobility justice for the people with low incomes, people of color, and people with disabilities who disproportionately rely on public transit in our metro region.
We know our voices have made a difference in this project! Let’s hold Hennepin County accountable to their commitment to prioritizing walking, rolling, biking, and taking transit above car travel and make sure the final design reflects community demands so that Lyndale is a safer and more welcoming destination for all.
Please share comments with Hennepin County by April 24, telling them the final design must:
Speak up now to demand critical improvements before the plan gets sent to City of Minneapolis and Hennepin County leaders for approval later this summer. Make your voice heard by April 24!

Year round biked just shy of thirties when I got laid off last fall. Pretty fast realized that I was missing more then half of jobs because MT can't give me a sub 2.5 hour commute (from DT), or due to my field needing rapid response for regions in a quarter of positions I was qualified for.
Bought my first car, Got the job now I'm vying my time till I can get a job I can bike to again. My coworkers were wrong when they said if I got a car I'd see it.
Just wanted to say something into the void now I'm grabbing my bike :)
Enjoy the good weather while it lasts.

Thanks for stopping to check on me when I was fixing the second tube puncture of my day! You were incredibly kind and I'm sorry if I came off a bit terse. This was on Chippendale Ave W in Farmington by the Kwik Trip.
As I mentioned, it was my second flat and, while I had time to repair the first one, I didn't have the time or second tube to fix a second one as I was heading home to do pickup for my kids.
It's always great to see the kindness cyclists show each other and I appreciate you for stopping when you were out on your ride. Hope to catch you out on the road again and buy you a thank you snack.
