Fall FTW rides are here! 🍃🚲 Great news🎉—EVERY Saturday in October we are doing an FTW (women/trans/femme/nonbinary) group ride to local spots for coffee and treats. That's FIVE fantastic rides coming up, all casually paced and about fun and community. Each ride will meet behind Perennial at 10 am (10:15 rollout) for a 6-12 mile social group ride. Our first ride on October 3 will be headed to @millcityfarmersmarket and @frgmntcoffee. Destinations for all 5 rides will be posted the week leading up!

Have you ever actually been inside the Nicollet Island Pavilion? Well it won’t happen on Sunday because it’s not called Coffee (Inside). For some reason the parks are reevaluating the operations at the Nicollet Island Pavilion which is a Mpls Parks property being operated by a private company (which pays rent to the parks). The Pavilion is available for weddings and other events. Nobody is actually unhappy with the arrangement. But it’s always good to take time and reflect? In any case, the Parks wants to know how residents and visitors would like to see the Pavilion used? So think about it. Maybe the Pavilion could be a public market. Maybe there could be a restaurant like Sea Salt at the Minnehaha Falls or Bread & Pickle at Lake Harriet (but not like Pimento at Bde Maka Ska). Maybe it should be a hotel. Maybe it’s just fine how it is. FYI, the Nicollet Island Pavilion exists because someone thought it would be a good place for a boiler factory in 1897. If you have some thoughts, I think you should email them to… info@eastbankmpls.org Either way come to Coffee (Outside) on Sunday at 10am. It’s actually just about the most gorgeous spot in the city. And it’s on an island! And you know we’re doing free yoga at 9am at the bike shop. And the Community Ride meanders around Northeast starting at 11am-ish after Coffee (Outside). Our Women/Trans/Femme/Nonbinary Grand Rounds Group Ride is TOMORROW!! 🚲🌳 Join us at 9 am behind Perennial for a 9:30 am roll out. Weather is looking perfect for a day of biking all around Minneapolis—50 miles to be exact! We'll ride on all the beautiful trails and parks our city has to offer, making 3 stops at Minnehaha Falls, Gold Medal Park, and Theodore Wirth. Each has food options, bathrooms, and water fountains, but please pack a water bottle and a snack. We will ride at a social, 10-12 mph pace and will be doing the loop counterclockwise. Feel free to join for any part of the loop or peel off as needed. This may be our summer FTW riding series grand finale but there is more biking fun to be had! Let’s (mini) ride to the Monarch Festival 👐! Meet at Hiawatha Park Playground at 10AM for a hangout/craft/play before slow rolling up to the Monarch Festival on the north end of Lake Nokomis. We’ll have a little butterfly wing craft to do (just gluing paper pieces). Together we’ll be a kaleidoscope of little monarchs flying south along the bike path to the festival. Join us for a spicy (~15-17 mph pace) venture over into St. Paul! This route will feature three mini-races, with incredible prizes for the winners (open/femme/GNC categories, participation not mandatory). 🏅 This ride starts at Behind Bars Bicycle Shop and ends at Indeed Brewing (with multiple food options nearby). Be sure to bring lights for this ride, we’re losing daylight fast and want to make sure everyone makes it to Indeed + home safely. 💡 Your lead is @cgunsbury and your sweep is @maurangatang Spicy Ride Basics: This ride will depart @behindbarsbicycleshop Shop at 6 p.m. on Thursdays (208 13th Ave. NE) This ride will end at @indeedbrewing (711 NE 15th Ave). Please note that rides will have a variety of end points this year! Each week we will put a link to the route in our bio. Rolling pace for this ride is 15-17 mph. Our spicy rides are no-drop (the lead will wait for the group if separated) and we will have multiple team members available to sweep, but the routes are constructed for easy turnarounds if you end up feeling a little milder that night. Please take a look at the route, suggested bike and target rolling pace before attending. Bring the following: Helmet, lights, lock, water, & cash to tip. Jason (pictured) got married at Bauhaus before he started working there. That’s how much this place is a part of his life. We almost lost Bauhaus this summer. Rather, we lost Bauhaus and got a new Bauhaus back. There’s something to morn there, but plenty to celebrate. And we’re super grateful to have a business like Bauhaus in our neck of the woods. Look for their events calendar (Octoberfest, Trivia Night, etc.). It really is a new thing with some cool changes. And it’s the same old (old) space. Bauhaus is one of the best reuses of Northeast’s old industrial spaces. So help us welcome the new (and old) crew and the new effort to the neighborhood on Sunday at 10am. We’ll do our usual Coffee (Outside) standing around chatting thing until 11:00 when Bauhaus actually opens on Sundays. Then we’ll immediately leave (not immediately) for our regular NE Community Ride at 11:00ish. And please do come for yoga at Recovery Bike Shop before all of that. 9am. It’s free. @halenanne is leading class this week and it’s a great way to be nice to yourself and kick off a new week. We’re thrilled to share that, after a summer spent fighting leukemia, our ride leader @puzo_superelli—a.k.a., Twin Cities biking legend Mario Macaruso—is making his return to the Fulton Beer fold! ❤️ That means our Fulton programming is back, with three rides comin’ atcha this fall. We’ll kick things off next week, Thursday, September 10, with a Back to School ride, and we’re asking everyone to bring a school supply to the ride to donate to local teachers and students. But wait, there’s more: this fall, there’s a new way to join in. Because Mario’s vision hasn’t fully returned yet, he’ll be leading a stroll alongside the roll, with a walk along the river while the ride heads out on two (or three) wheels. Mario's even created special trivia for the walk! And we're lending him our bullhorn to really make a ruckus on the river trail. So grab your bike or your walking shoes. Either way, you’re part of the crew. And when we all make it back to Fulton, your first beer or other beverage is on us. 🍻

Next Saturday! Meet us on a bike or the beach for a Cumbia Ciclovía themed fundraiser to assist earthquake recovery efforts in Colombia. Photo is from the orphanage I was adopted from, Los Pisingos. 🦆 If we put as much effort into keeping families together as we did the adoption industry I have no doubt myself and many others would have been able to stay home rather than be transacted by shady religious orgs to appease barren couples. Tagged a few adoptee advocates that we can all learn from. ✊🏽 As we travel back to Colombia this month, my wife and many other Guides remind me this is all part of our healing journey. FTW Grand Rounds! 🚲🌳 Women/Trans/Femme/Nonbinary folks, join us September 12 for the Grand Finale of our Summer FTW riding series—a ride around the Grand Rounds of Minneapolis. This 50 mile loop goes around the entirety of the city through all our beautiful parks and trails and we will be enjoying it all on this extra special FTW group ride. Meet up at 9 am behind Perennial for a 9:30 am roll out. We will ride at a social, 10-12 mph pace so anticipate being back to Perennial by 5 pm. We will make 3-4 stops along the way that include food options, bathrooms, and water fountains, but please pack a water bottle and a snack. Minnesota bikers are renowned for biking through sleet, snow, and cold weather. But these cyclists are bringing a different version of chill to bicycling: “party pace” rides, accompanied by a live DJ spinning from the back of a bike trailer. Throughout the spring and summer, hundreds of riders participate in these group rides, complete with pop-up dance parties on the streets of Minneapolis. It’s the brainchild of the Joyful Riders Bike Club and local bike shop Perennial Cycle. Enjoy a little storytelling below, and if you’d like to see more sign up for our newsletter. - A few weeks ago a few ACF folks headed out for an opportunity to tackle some new to us whitewater. Although the flows were low we still made the call to make the haul 1.5 hours away to the St. Croix river. Knowing that we were trading class 3 rapids for a solid seven miles of paddling we decided to all bring an assortment of fishing rods to try our hand at some smallies along the way. Elena, Matthew and Jarrod spent some time out on the river only scraping a few times while meandering the river left and right in search of what we surely thought would elude us. A moment of cloud cover, along with it, the small mouth bass’ inhibitions. Matthew hooked up quickly, and took a fish down river. Later Jarrod got a fly eater and Elena caught their first smallie on the trip! Friends, let us tell ya, the versatility of an Alpacka raft is nothing to shake a stick… er paddle at. The @genx_tc_cycling_team hosted a Minneapolis History Ride from @behindbarsbicycleshop today that visited historic stops like the Maple Hill Cemetery (Beltrami Park), the Ard Godfrey House, Lumber Exchange Building, Stevens House at Minnehaha Park, The Lee House and finished at the 'Say Their Names' exhibit. We had a great turnout of 30+ riders. @eskelton1968 created the route and chose the locations then narrated each stops history. 8 members of the @genx_tc_cycling_team also attended in support. The tour traveled 20 miles throughout Minneapolis on this beautiful late August Sunday. This week’s social ride will take the scenic route, with a destination where you can grab a beer and some barbecue. Be sure to ride a bike that can handle a couple off road moments, your gravel rig should be just fine. Your lead @ayelaitch and your sweep is @kierangodzella Social Ride Basics: Social series rides will depart @behindbarsbicycleshop Shop at 6 p.m. on Thursdays (208 13th Ave. NE) This ride will end at @ladonacerveza + @animalesbarbequeco (241 Fremont Ave N.) Please note that social rides will have a variety of end points this year! These are NO-DROP rides. We ride as a group and nobody gets left behind. Rolling pace for social series rides will be 10-12 MPH. Please check the route details each week to see if the ride is right for you, your bike, and your fitness level. BRING THE FOLLOWING: Helmet, lights, lock, water, & cash to tip. All participants must be kind and respectful both on and off the bike. Follow the rules of the road, give space to other trail users, and do not ride in a risky manner. Respect others’ identities, pronouns, personal space, and more. Sexist, racist, transphobic, homophobic, xenophobic, and ableist language/behavior won’t be tolerated.

I don’t know of a more incredible backyard garden in NE Mpls than Ro & Sarah’s. And that’s saying a lot because my friends host seed exchanges, harvest parties, and garden tour bike rides. Sarah & Ro have generously volunteered to let us bring Coffee (Outside) to see the splendor they have created. Join us at 10am Sunday for Coffee (Outside) at Sarah & Ro’s little Eden: 415 4th St NE Minneapolis Now I am not a garden person. I am barely a vegetable person. And it doesn’t get nerdier than this as far as gardening is concerned. But I was blown away by the knowledge, commitment, breadth, and depth (and height) of their project. I can’t even say “yard” anymore because they are managing four properties immediately adjacent to their house. This is really incredible. This is so good for Northeast. We’re talking habitat, micro climates, storm water mitigation, food production, pest control, passive solar, all of the things! These two are setting a fantastic example and I’d love for you to see it. The 2nd Annual Summers End Potluck Picnic aka 'Northeast meets Southside' turned out fantastic again! Great turnout from @unsanctioned.rides @behindbarsbicycleshop and @sociablecider @recoverybikeshop . FTW Grand Rounds! 🚲🌳 Women/Trans/Femme/Nonbinary folks, join us September 12 for the Grand Finale of our Summer FTW riding series—a ride around the Grand Rounds of Minneapolis. This 50 mile loop goes around the entirety of the city through all our beautiful parks and trails and we will be enjoying it all on this extra special FTW group ride. Meet up at 9 am behind Perennial for a 9:30 am roll out. We will ride at a social, 10-12 mph pace so anticipate being back to Perennial by 5 pm. We will make 3-4 stops along the way that include food options, bathrooms, and water fountains, but please pack a water bottle and a snack. Want to ride but not interested in doing the whole Grand Rounds? Feel free to join for any part of the loop. We will be riding counter-clockwise with many points where you can easily join-in or peel off. DM us with any questions! 🎵 End Of Summer - Tame Impala

Thanks to an amendment by Council Members Elliott Payne and Michael Rainville, the Central Ave Art Walk got a much needed vote of confidence Thursday as the Central Ave reconstruction project goes back to MNDoT. Payne @elliottforward1 and Rainville @rainvilleward3 (and their amazing staff), who have both been very supportive of the Art Walk, made sure MNDoT would understand that the lines on the street matter a great deal to the people of Northeast Minneapolis. Their amendment calls for “MNDoT to acknowledge that this part of Central Avenue is not a highway but a dense urban arts district.” The amendment speaks to the Art Walk specifically and calls for the inclusion of input from the Arts District and the greater community. This is a big step. This is a win. Thank you to everyone who has sent emails or made phone calls or showed up for Coffee (Outside) to advocate for the Central Ave Art Walk over the last two years. The work has a long way to go, but we have been working to get to this exact point for a long time. And we are being heard! 🎵 Love Letter - Bloom

Last week’s Family Fun Ride! So.much.Fun Vita joined us from @urbanarrow to help launch the new UA Breeze! Piecycle Club and the MN Cargo Bike Library showed up to help us celebrate the big day. We played games, did singalongs while riding, ate @isles.bun.and.coffee puppy tails, had storytime, test ride the @urbanarrow Breeze, drank Perennial’s house cold brew and mostly laughed, smiled and chatted with each other.
