I know they pay for positive reviews and suppress others, so I'm hoping people will see this Reddit post before even calling them.
\n\n
I had a block in my main sewer line which is honestly not in great shape in the first place. I decided to call Bonfe because their initial cleaning special is cheap (red flag #1, these cheap initial prices are meant for them to get in your home to rope you into bigger charges down the road). The first tech came to snake the line and couldn't progress halfway. He called in a 2nd tech who was the biggest asshole I've ever welcomed into my home. He immediately ran a camera in the clogged, water-filled pipes and started trying to convince me I needed my entire line replaced despite not being able to even see it. He started with a ballpark range of $50,000(!) and said he feels strongly that we needed to dig in my basement for a $100,000(!!!) project. He tried to strong-arm me into paying for a $3,000 job to clear the line. He described it as a jetting project but refused to use that word because a simple Google search would prove how other companies offer that same service for less than $1k. When I told him I wanted to speak with my wife first he became incredibly hostile about my home in general, stating what a mistake I made for even buying it among other things. In general he used scare tactics, made assumptions + false claims, and on top of it all he and the other tech both had the audacity to try to rope me into their subscription service immediately despite never solving my issue!
\n\n
I called a smaller local company the next morning, had them on site 3 hours later, and they were able to totally clear my pipes in a few hours for a fraction of the cost + referred me to other local companies for eventual long-term repair work. Every smaller company I spoke with literally laughed when I mentioned Bonfe's pricing and opinions. It was clear to them and me that they were plainly trying to scam me by taking advantage of my desperation.
\n\n
If you live around Minneapolis / St Paul do NOT even let Bonfe into your home. So many other businesses here will treat you with the respect and honesty you deserve.
\n
\n\n
⬆️ 369 points | 💬 77 comments
","metadata":{"score":628,"source_feed_id":"r-twincities","source_feed_type":"reddit"}},{"id":"1t58ybf","title":"Trump administration axes fast-track training for new ICE recruits","link":"https://www.reddit.com/r/TwinCities/comments/1t58ybf/trump_administration_axes_fasttrack_training_for/","author":"Fun-Injury9266","published_at":"2026-05-06T10:32:40+00:00","content":"\n\n
https://www.politico.com/news/2026/05/06/trump-administration-axes-fast-track-training-for-new-ice-recruits-00906941?utm_medium=activitypub&utm_source=flipboard
\n\n\n

This deficit of training was obvious before the first jackboots hit the streets of our community. A flag that, at its’ heart, is steeped in disrespect for the indigenous peoples of our great state and has officially been discontinued from use on the state level. It is not for individual city governments to determine how to represent our state and the decision to revert to the previous design is problematic and feeds into a mindset of combativeness that does not belong in our community.
\n\n
The flag that was revealed in 1983 features an obvious reference to Manifest Destiny, the belief that colonization of indigenous lands was not only obvious, but certain to happen due to a misguided sense of racial superiority. The imagery present not only evokes a troubled past, but it also shines a light on an unwillingness to change, with that seal remaining much the same since the very first design in 1893.
\n\n
When the redesign commission was formed in 2023, it brought together representatives from the many cultures that reside in our state to decide upon a design that would represent the best of our state while standing out from other state flags aesthetically. After the thought and work that went into that decision, to blatantly ignore it in favor of the previous flag feels not only disrespectful, but condescending and provocative, clearly meant to divide our community rather than bring it together.
\n\n
(Mayor Dietrich/ You) has/have gone on record stating that the “public reaction to the new flag has thus far been overwhelmingly negative and underwhelmingly accepted”. With all due respect, more residents spoke up in favor of the new flag at the meeting where this was decided. There is also a high number of people, myself included, that are very content with the current flag and saw no reason to express that contentment prior to this outcome. It is my hope that by sending this email, you receive enough feedback to reconsider this decision and return the 8-pointed star design to our flagpoles.
\n\n
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to the day this issue is revisited.
\n\n

\n\n
-(Your name here), a proud citizen of Inver Grove Heights
\n\n
__________________________________________________________________
\n\n
Just edit the bolded text to personalize and you should be good to go.
\n\n
If this isn't allowed, feel free to delete. That is nearly $6 million in taxpayer money in just two years. This coincides with the “feeding our futures” timeline of government grants issued to feed children. Is it feasible that they really needed $6 million dollars to feed children? Does anyone know how to dig into what the funds were specifically granted to the Creative Church for in 2021 & 2022? The website I used didn’t provide any additional information and I’m finding it difficult on the Minnesota state website. I want to confirm what those funds were actually used for. Is it typical for a church to take government funding?
\n\n
Unrelated but the Pastor is running a subscription service for parental advice. I think it’s ethically bankrupt for a religious leader to paywall guidance. Something just feels gross to me about how many digital paywall courses they have. When you pair that with the merch they’re selling, this whole thing feels like a Brozozog business rather than a church really serving the community. I don’t want to jump to conclusions but I’m interested in public feedback.
\n\n
For those wondering about my motivations, I have a friend who has been completely sucked into this church and I want to make sure her good intentions are not wasted on something potentially nefarious.
\n
\n\n
⬆️ 229 points | 💬 66 comments
","metadata":{"score":298,"source_feed_id":"r-twincities","source_feed_type":"reddit"}},{"id":"1sul7hp","title":"Star Tribune: Only one of our Twin Cities appears serious about reviving its downtown","link":"https://www.reddit.com/r/TwinCities/comments/1sul7hp/star_tribune_only_one_of_our_twin_cities_appears/","author":"Character-Fly-5564","published_at":"2026-04-24T16:48:26+00:00","content":"\n\n
https://www.startribune.com/downtown-revitalization-st-paul-minneapolis/601786968?utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwdGRjcARYfL1leHRuA2FlbQExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkCjY2Mjg1NjgzNzkAAR7zLgbo9rBfm0fW2N_kVtw-HmR_nSmXwhE8oSkg2C_slRYx78fIdVzWTPw8LA_aem_Sao84CS7O5rvGNAstlfUbA
\n\n\n

The urgency of leaders in St. Paul to resuscitate the downtown market should be instructive for Minneapolis.
\n\n
The pricey new vision for connecting downtown St. Paul with the Mississippi River involves a sloping park and a land bridge over a road and railroad tracks. It’s clear that Ramsey County’s reboot of this concept faces tall odds.
\n\n
But at least they’re thinking big in the Capital City.
\n\n
Faced with collapsing downtown tax bases, only one of our Twin Cities appears willing to rally around some dramatic market interventions. Reviving downtown St. Paul is an urgent mission for many of the city’s political and corporate leaders, whereas Minneapolis is largely watching as the market continues to slide.
\n\n
You could hear the urgency in recent quotes from Ramsey County officials, presenting their ambitious plans for downtown St. Paul. Downtown was “pivotal,” they said, and “someone’s got to kick the door open” to be a “catalyst.”
\n\n
I just keep seeing St. Paul headlines that I simply can’t imagine on the west side of the river.
\n\n
An arm of St. Paul’s Downtown Alliance is scooping up derelict buildings downtown, for example, and just received a $30 million infusion from Securian Financial and the Bush Foundation — both based in downtown — to keep making aggressive moves. The county is planning to spend $50 million on downtown housing development.
\n\n
And the city has shown it is willing to have skin in the game. Just look at Landmark Tower beside the St. Paul Hotel, an office building that became apartments last year thanks in part to a $20 million city-approved tax subsidy.
\n\n
Meanwhile, new Mayor Kaohly Her and the Minnesota Wild are pushing a joint proposal at the Legislature to rehab the city’s largest arena and its adjacent auditorium.
\n\n
Longtime St. Paul developer John Mannillo has been critical of office-to-residential conversions and the city’s reliance on tax subsidies — which eclipses any other city. But he feels the city’s new leadership understands changes are needed to revive downtown, and ideas are welcomed.
\n\n
St. Paul’s smaller size works in its favor during a crisis. “If you get the right people pulling in the right direction, get everybody pulling in the right direction, [recovery] is easier to do,” Mannillo said.
\n\n
The urgency in St. Paul is also just a reflection of a particularly dire situation.
\n\n
“We’ve hit bottom. No matter what we do, hopefully we’re going to do better,” Mannillo said. “The bar is not that high right now for us.”
\n\n
The shuttered Alliance Bank building is seen in downtown St. Paul in October 2025. (Leila Navidi/The Minnesota Star Tribune)
\n\n
To be clear, Minneapolis’ downtown is healthier than St. Paul‘s. It remains a lively hub of sports and entertainment, and many of its skyscrapers are still worth a lot of money — despite 30% office vacancies and dispiriting news like the Foshay Tower on the brink of foreclosure.
\n\n
But five years of falling downtown commercial building values — including a nearly 14% drop last year alone — is dumping a growing tax burden on the city’s residents. And “the market hasn’t found a bottom yet,” as my friend and former colleague Steve Brandt observed at a recent meeting of the city’s Board of Estimate and Taxation, of which he serves as president.
\n\n
Those buildings are the golden goose of the Minneapolis tax base, underwriting a lot of the services residents rely on. Their continued decline is chipping away at the very foundation of the city’s budget, but our local leaders seem remarkably apathetic about it.
\n\n
Sure, there are plans for downtown and news conferences about its importance. But we’re usually celebrating some penny ante solution, like subsidizing artists to occupy storefronts. A notable exception is the ongoing work by nonprofit Owámniyomni Okhódayapi to restore the natural beauty of the downtown riverfront.
\n\n
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey leads local media on a walking tour of a stretch of the Nicollet Mall in 2023. (Jeff Wheeler/The Minnesota Star Tribune)
\n\n
We need creative public-private partnerships. But dysfunction at City Hall has narrowed the spectrum of what’s politically viable. And while democratic socialists on the City Council deserve a lot of criticism for misplaced priorities, Mayor Jacob Frey and his moderate council allies spend most of their time in a defensive posture instead marshaling a plan to revive the city’s tax base.
\n\n
The reason this is so striking is that, for much of the 20th century, catalyzing downtown investment was a core focus of city leadership.
\n\n
It started in earnest, perhaps, when the city blew up a great deal of downtown Minneapolis in the ’50s and ’60s to make way for the high-rise buildings we see today. This was followed by major subsidies to restore Hennepin Avenue’s historic theaters and convert the industrial riverfront into a new neighborhood.
\n\n
Block E, the Depot, Gaviidae, Target, City Center — there’s a long list of big dollar downtown projects that were aided by city subsidies. A number were huge failures, but the ambition was clear. And as the downtown tax base grew, the city used tax increment financing to funnel wealth into the neighborhoods through the Neighborhood Revitalization Program.
\n\n
City Council President Jackie Cherryhomes, Hard Rock Cafe executive Chris Tomasso, Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton and developer Dan McCaffery celebrate Hard Rock Cafe moving into the Block E development in 2001. (MIKE ZERBY)
\n\n
This era of market intervention essentially ended in 2001, when R.T. Rybak was elected mayor promising to hit the brakes on the subsidies. The city had primed the pump — now it had to let the market work.
\n\n
And it paid off. Minneapolis was perfectly poised to ride the nationwide wave toward urban living, which made the city a boomtown in the 2010s. The city’s controversial investment in a new Vikings stadium was a rare exception to the new norm of restrained subsidies — which were reserved largely for affordable housing.
\n\n
So it is notable to hear Rybak say now that Minneapolis needs to rethink its aversion to market intervention.
\n\n
“As a person who came in and had the city stop using so much tax increment financing, that is one of the many tools we have to start thinking about again — as well as inventing some new tools to make key investments,\" said Rybak, who now leads the Minneapolis Foundation.
\n\n
In his experience, big things that happened in the city rarely started at City Hall. They involved partnerships across sectors, he said, a model that needs to be reinvented for this era.
\n\n
“The tools and coalition are not in place to act as boldly as we have to act right now,” Rybak said.
\n\n
Downtowns must continuously evolve to remain a vital asset for the surrounding region. Minneapolis knows that the Big Retail era of Nicollet Mall is over, for example, and buildings need to be retrofitted for smaller storefronts (more doors!). But this will likely require public incentives that nobody seems eager to provide.
\n\n
Our region’s special arrangement of having two adjacent core cities provides good opportunities to compare and contrast. So Minneapolis leaders better be paying attention, because there’s action happening in St. Paul.
\n
\n\n
⬆️ 227 points | 💬 137 comments
","metadata":{"score":243,"source_feed_id":"r-twincities","source_feed_type":"reddit"}},{"id":"1sudvtc","title":"Found: missing 14 year old","link":"https://www.reddit.com/r/TwinCities/comments/1sudvtc/found_missing_14_year_old/","author":"MarchingBlind","published_at":"2026-04-24T12:09:11+00:00","content":"\n\n
https://www.reddit.com/r/TwinCities/comments/1sqqeez/missing_14_year_old/?share_id=JAAu_lPZ1y7TsDDYn6wWG&utm_content=2&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1
\n\n\n

Original post linked. I feel unbelievably lucky we live so close to them! I’ve literally never gotten my scans in longer than 24 hours, and I usually get them within 5 hours of dropping off my film - no extra charge that’s just how fast they are. Their scans are insanely good, their staff is incredibly knowledgeable and kind, and I just think they deserve all the praise in the world! This is fully not paid in any way, I literally actually pay them hundreds a month in developing for our work lol - but they deserve every single dollar and every ounce of praise. Bring your film there, get your passport photos taken there, get your prints done there - they’re TOPS.
\n\n
Including a handful of recent scans from them for reference as well!
\n\n
📍Fast Foto Film Lab
\n\n
9145 Lyndale Ave S,
\n\n
Bloomington, MN 55420
\n
\n\n
⬆️ 333 points | 💬 35 comments
","metadata":{"score":414,"source_feed_id":"r-twincities","source_feed_type":"reddit"}},{"id":"1srcs6c","title":"Minneapolis Star-Tribune Coverage of Prince's Death","link":"https://www.reddit.com/r/TwinCities/comments/1srcs6c/minneapolis_startribune_coverage_of_princes_death/","author":"z00r0pa","published_at":"2026-04-21T04:00:41+00:00","content":"\n\n
https://www.reddit.com/gallery/1srcn5x
\n\n\n\n\n
⬆️ 322 points | 💬 13 comments
","metadata":{"score":325,"source_feed_id":"r-twincities","source_feed_type":"reddit"}},{"id":"1sr86pl","title":"MN Rep.
