\n\nBelow is a breakdown of the energy charge per kilowatt hour (kWh).
\n\nNote: Energy charge is measured per kWh
\n\nJune through September: $0.13
\n\nOctober through May: $0.11
\n\nOctober through May with electric space heating: $0.06
\n\nI moved into my apt this summer, and noticed that our bill was being charged the 11 cent rate, which is the default. You have to opt in to get the 6 cent rate.
\n\nHere was the process I went through in case you want to do it yourself or educate your friends and family.
\n\nI checked my electric bill, and on page 2 of the pdf, I saw my energy charge for summer and winter. The winter charge reads $0.11.
\n\nI then contacted Xcel customer service.
\n\n800-895-4999 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Mon-Fri, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sat
\n\nFor the phone tree I selected: 2 for main menu, 5 for other, 5 for anything else.
\n\nThen provide the account holder's phone number or your Account number (long number on your bill or online account).
\n\nI said to the representative (nicely!!) \"Hi, I was looking at your website and saw that you offer an electric space heating rate of 0.06. I recently moved into my new apartment and see on my bill that I am being charged the default 0.11 rate. I have electric space heating, which is covered under your electric space heating rate. How can we change the rate today?\"
\n\nHe was unfamiliar with it (edit: it sounds like some representatives are familiar, but not all are), and had to look it up. He claimed that only heat pumps qualify, but I said that I was aware that all forms of electric heating (electric resistance, boiler, radiator, etc) are covered. He checked and I was correct. If they say only heat pumps, say what kind you have and have them look up if its covered (anything that is electric is covered as far as I know).
\n\nHe then said the rate will be applied to my next billing cycle, but the rate will also go into affect starting today. The difference will be credited to the following bill (I guess that's just how billing will be). So my next bill will be the same rate, but there will be a credit to the one after with the difference.
\n\nTLDR: if you have Xcel for your electric bill, and you use electricity to heat your home, you can call Xcel today and get the reduced electric rate (for your entire electric bill, not just for heating!)
\n\nEdit: If you have some form of electric heating as primary (for instance, heat pumps that go down to 35 F), but also have gas as a backup, you should also be able to qualify. Call and just say you have a form of electric heating!
\n\nUpdate: You might be able to enroll online.

And I noticed that the entire store was nearly all colored printers think pretty well much every brand, model, product, and such and such. I asked the manager Jason why are there so many damn colored printers are you trying to make the damn starry night painting again and he said nope just pretty well much Minnesota is a big hub for business and printing and that people come from places like Canada, the Dakota’s, etc. to print here. I picked up what he was putting down and consulted with the Goggle and with my research I am pretty well much thinking this place might be the colored printing capital of the world, is it a market to capitalize I have a T-shirt maker in my truck and maybe I can make some damn shirts for everyone that says “Minneapolis - Colored Printing Capital of The World” and sell them for big bucks or maybe get paid by the city to set up signs pretty well much highlighting this around town. Just a thought, but anyone else noticed this about the city, seems lucrative!

If you haven’t seen Jake Lang & crew were arrested at City Hall this morning - they made it all the way onto the property and pepper sprayed counter protesters before that happened though.
\n\nA piece of this a lot of people probably won’t think about and aren’t really talking about is that city hall is only open for private elopements on Saturdays - it’s recently been one of the more common wedding venues and it’s an especially popular wedding venue among Queer couples (want to make a particular note I do not know if anyone was getting married there this morning wt the time of these events - I desperately hope not. This was a pre-planned and widely shared hate event that Jake Lang had been promoting and I’m hoping that info got to anyone who had been planning ceremonies for today. But even having to schedule or reschedule around a literal HATE RALLY is actually insane and goes without saying should not be anything anyone remotely is having to consider planning an elopement!

If you're out of the loop: pardoned J6 rioter Edward Jacob Lang held a 'protest' at MPLS city hall today, where he originally planned to just yell the N-word a bunch of times, or something. Naturally, the locals didn't like that.
\n\nHe was chased out of downtown (again) and picked up either at Washington Avenue or near MOA, (it's unclear) and he and his associates were all arrested on probable cause of riot, per MPD.
\n\nAmong those arrested on riot charges this afternoon are:
\n\nArrestees will likely remain in custody until at least Monday, when they will be seen by a judge to determine bail.
\n\nAll suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

\n\n\nThe latest article on this from MPR completely glosses over what I see as the crux of the issue with this exhibit. The standard for how generative AI is used for someone's art to be seen as legitimate is completely subjective. It is clear that the artist has much more tolerance for the tool's role in his work than many of the people who have seen it. However, we're being treated as though because it is not an issue for the artist, it is not relevant to the viewer. Images made with software embedded with generative AI is still...generative AI. Even if the images go through many iterations by the artist to get the desired outcome, even if those images are based on very human ideas, it is still generative AI.
\n\nI feel as though the public is being treated like we cannot understand nuance in this situation. I don't think the intention was to sneak this in and not have anyone notice, but that is what the outcome feels like. The Walker (and MPR) doubling down on it not being gen AI feels patronizing and lazy.
\n\nLike it or not, AI needs to be a part of the conversation about this exhibit. Using the tools the artist chose to use is a political choice at this point, whether or not that was intended. Not to mention the particular irony here, with the exhibit itself centering itself around relationships to water.

\n\nPersonally, I would love to tell them to suck a fat one. I don’t think I am in violation of the resident handbook. An ICE OUT sign is not offensive and if you’re offended by it I don’t care. However, I do understand I do not technically own my apartment and if my landlord is telling me I have to do something I should probably do it (I can’t afford to lose my apartment right now).
\n\nI’m looking for any tips/ideas/suggestions for what to do. I would love ideas on how to maliciously comply with what they’re asking.

For months, I've noticed these large white, solar-powered camera units around The Quarry on New Brighton Blvd. in Minneapolis. I always suspected they were Flock Safety cameras, but I didn't really think much about them until I recently saw a large Telaid crew, roughly ten people, actively servicing the equipment, with someone on a computer apparently running diagnostics while the field technicians worked on the cameras.
\n\nThat made me curious enough to start digging into who actually owns and operates this system.
\n\nThe cameras appear to be Flock Safety automated license-plate readers (ALPRs). Minneapolis residents have independently reported Flock cameras around The Quarry, specifically near the Home Depot area including one near the lumber yard entrance and another toward the back of the parking lot.
\n\nThe Quarry itself is privately operated. Sterling Organization lists Quarry Retail at 1520–1730 New Brighton Blvd., with Home Depot as one of its major anchor tenants.
\n\nThen I found something considerably more interesting: Home Depot's own SEC filings.
\n\nAn archived 2026 Home Depot filing documents the company's relationship with Flock Safety and its use of automated license-plate-reader cameras in Home Depot parking lots.

\n\nThe filing is worth reading because it goes beyond simply saying \"we have security cameras.\" It discusses Flock's ALPR technology and the collection of vehicle/license-plate information, along with how access to the system is handled.
\n\nIn other words, we're talking about technology that can create a searchable record of vehicle activity, not simply a camera recording sitting on a local security system.
\n\nThere's another archived shareholder filing that goes even deeper into the privacy concerns surrounding Home Depot's relationship with Flock.

\n\nThat document discusses Home Depot's deployment of Flock cameras throughout its parking lots and raises concerns about law-enforcement access to the resulting data. It also discusses examples of Flock information being obtained by federal agencies through participating law-enforcement agencies.
\n\nThat's the part that really caught my attention.
\n\nI'm not claiming that ICE, Minneapolis PD, or any other particular agency is currently accessing the cameras at The Quarry. I haven't found evidence proving that.
\n\nBut it raises a legitimate question...
\n\nIf a private retailer's cameras are collecting searchable vehicle data, who exactly gets to search it?
\n\nAnd how far does that data travel?
\n\nThe fact that this information is buried in corporate filings and shareholder materials makes the archived copies particularly interesting. I'm not suggesting Home Depot is trying to hide the information — these are public filings — but they're certainly not the kind of thing most people are going to stumble across while shopping at Home Depot.
\n\nThen there's Telaid.
\n\nTelaid is a national technology-integration company that handles physical-security deployments, surveillance systems, networking, diagnostics and ongoing maintenance. So seeing an entire Telaid crew servicing these cameras makes sense if this is an enterprise-level Flock deployment.
\n\nThe apparent chain looks something like:
\n\nHome Depot → Flock Safety → Telaid → physical surveillance infrastructure
\n\nBut there is still one important piece I haven't been able to conclusively establish:
\n\nWho specifically owns the Flock cameras at The Quarry?
\n\nHome Depot's filings establish that Home Depot uses Flock cameras in its parking lots. Local reports identify Flock cameras around the Home Depot portion of The Quarry. The physical setup is consistent with that deployment.
\n\nThat's compelling circumstantial evidence — but I don't want to pretend I've found a contract that I haven't.
\n\nWhat I'd really like to find is the actual documentation showing:
\n\n* Who purchased the Quarry cameras
\n\n* Who owns the physical equipment
\n\n* Who owns the collected data
\n\n* How long the data is retained
\n\n* Which agencies have access
\n\n* Whether outside agencies can query the system
\n\n* Whether the Quarry cameras participate in Flock's broader data-sharing network
\n\n* What Telaid is contracted to maintain
\n\n* How much the installation and maintenance costs
\n\nI went from \"I wonder why Telaid has ten people working on these cameras\" to finding corporate filings documenting Home Depot's relationship with a nationwide vehicle surveillance network.
\n\nThat doesn't automatically mean something nefarious is happening.
\n\nBut I think it's reasonable to ask questions when a private parking lot is equipped with technology capable of creating a searchable record of the vehicles coming and going, especially when the company's own filings acknowledge the broader questions surrounding access to that data.
\n\nIf anyone has the actual Quarry/Flock/Telaid contract, Minneapolis records, property-management documents, or other primary-source documentation, please post it.
\n\nI'd much rather see the actual paperwork than speculate.

There were three looping videos that were obviously AI along with many graphics that appeared to be AI generated. WTF? Nowhere in the exhibit did they let guests know that Jeyifous used AI, which feels so shady and wrong.
\n\nI talked to a Walker staffer and they said they’re not allowed to provide an official statement but agreed that AI was clearly used in many of the pieces. I was told even the “sculptures” in the exhibit were machined from AI-generated 3D models.
\n\nIt’s sickening to me that the Walker has this crap (I won’t call it art) on display and misleads people into believing it was actually made by a person. I usually like the Walker’s exhibits but this is a huge step in the wrong direction.
