My biggest concerns are battery, certifications, replacement parts, customer support, and whether local bike shops would even work on it. Ordering two at once feels like gamble. What do you usually prioritize when choosing an e-bike for family members?

\n\n\nI can disassemble the bike to the frame, but I have no idea who has the experience to either heat treat and bend the frame back, or cut off the damage and do a new weld?

I'm bummed that the city is spending $20k on interim improvements this fall that include adding sharrows striping on the two blocks of Hennepin to show that bikers can take the lane. They're also adding paint to show where delivery and rideshare drivers can park in the hope that the drivers don't park in the bike lane (example) but call me a pessimist, I don't think people read or follow directions nowadays. There will be some delineators (flex posts) though (we can start a pool on how long it'll take for them to get squished).
\n\nBut in 2028, they'll pour the concrete for grade-separated bike path for Hennepin Ave and then curb protected on Lake St for the one block. I went toward the end of the open house and I did hear grumblings from some folks about why the city is doing these improvements...

That’s such a busy intersection and clogging bike traffic at that spot is incredibly dangerous. This afternoon they trapped the guy at the front of the commuting peloton in a sales pitch so when the light changed to green, all the other commuters had to slowly and chaotically waddle around the canvassers and their mark which confused the drivers turning left and gave them just enough time to almost run us over in the intersection. The canvassers delay cyclists ability to start crossing which gives drivers who want to turn left 2 choices: either go while the cyclist are stuck behind the canvassers or wait and likely miss the light. This happens multiple times a week and I’m shocked nobody has been killed yet. THEY LITERALLY STAND IN THE BIKE LANE. What they’re doing is as inappropriate and unsafe as going up to a car at a red light and knocking on their window to trap them in a sales pitch. I’ve explained to them so many times how dangerous their tactic is but it’s always new people. Seriously, how do I contact the ACLU to tell them to cut that shit out? Or can I call 311 or something? I genuinely just can’t believe how oblivious they are about something that’s so clearly fucking dangerous. You’d think people have a shred of common sense.

A bit of background about my comfort level on a bike - I last owned a bike around a little over a decade ago when I was in college, and used it to get around campus and on local, low speed streets just off campus. I feel good about taking routes on protected bike lanes and low speed streets, but riding next to traffic moving a bit faster is probably a bit beyond my comfort level.
\n\nThere are two types of trips I would like to be able to take on a bike - occasional errands within a mile or two of my house (especially to pick up takeout from restaurants on Grand Ave) and a regular trip on Thursday evenings down to Level Up Saint Paul where I play D&D.
\n\nFor local errands on Grand Ave, it seems like it would make the most sense to bike on Summit, but what is that experience like right now? Do you feel safe biking in the bike lane on that road, even without any kind of buffer between the bike lane and car traffic? (I know the SART is supposed to improve things and hopefully that gets built sooner rather than later)
For my Thursday trip, what is the best way to get from Cathedral Hill down to Level Up? Is it possible to get down there using roads that feel reasonably safe? The southeastern area of Highland Park seems pretty bad for bike infrastructure. The two options I've come up with so far involve using Fairview as the last leg, which I have the same concerns about as I do Summit, and taking the San Morgan Regional Trail, which would pop me out south of my destination and force me to take Davern north a few blocks with no bike infrastructure whatsoever. Neither option fills me with confidence, but maybe I'm missing something or overestimating how dangerous these routes feel.

\n\n\nHello, all. Got back into cycling this May after ~20 years and decided to make a goal for end-of-summer. After looking around trails on Google maps, I decided to go from the start of the DRT to the end and back, as that seemed achievable and ambitious enough.
\n\nI ride a tadpole trike with no suspension, so I feel every bit of the road. Around the (paved) trails I ride around the Minnesota River, there are sections that'll rattle your teeth out, and some unpaved uphill parts that I can't get all the way up if they're wet. As I now feel prepared to tackle this and 57 will be the longest I've ridden in one go (done 50 now), I was wondering if anyone can give me a current report on the DRT from end-to-end before I tackle it one of the next few weekends.

\n\nA bit of backstory behind the question: My particular brand of autism gives me difficulty in spatial awareness and being able to make snap decisions during high-speed movement. This makes it unsafe for me to drive. However, cycling has always been something I could do pretty well. But I can't always make the correct decision on the road with other cars. So I'm looking for some safer places to be.
\n\nI come from a rural red-state with very little public transportation and no cycling infrastructure. The only cyclists-for-transportation in my city are seemingly either suicidal or have extremely good reflexes.
\n\nRecently, I've read a bit about Minneapolis having a large amount of completely separated bike lanes, as well as some protected bike lanes alongside the roadways.
\n\nI've been researching a bit into the location first, but I'd also like to hear from this community to hear opinions.
\n\nI have some difficulties with my neurology, but I always do my best to make up for it with good planning, preparation, and being extra-safe.
\n\nI know to stay on my side of a bike lane, obnoxiously ring my bell well-in-advance to give people time to react, wear protective gear and neon green+reflectors, the whole works. I plan to also find a bike bell that has that ANC-bypassing design that Skoda designed.
\n\nWhat do you think? I'm open to see what people have to say, good or bad!

\n\n\nMy commute to work has me taking Van White north from the N Cedar Lake Trail. With the construction of 394 around there and the closure of on/off ramps, I feel like the intersection gets a little messy during rush hour. I’ve found that it’s super easy to avoid the intersection altogether by taking a little detour under the bridge past the Basset Creek Valley station.
\n\nThe photo shows where to turn when approaching from the west. Sorry I don’t have one from the other direction it was dark last time I approached from downtown.
\n\nSome of you may be like ‘duh’ but I also drive through this intersection with once or twice a week and I’ve found that when I’m driving through I notice lots of cyclists trusting cars and crossing Van White on the NCLT most often without engaging the crosswalk lights. That’s fine if that’s you, no judgment (I don’t hit the crosswalk light either, I think it requires you to actually stop which is dumb), but for those of you who just want to avoid crossing at grade, it’s a quick and easy detour. Hopefully they put up some directional signs.

You then proceeded to do what you could to stay in front of me and yell back at me here and there about something or other. Then you got defensive because I got annoyed and started cursing and yelling other stuff.
\n\nI ride a Tern HSD, not a Surron. There's not even a throttle. I agree a lot of people with throttle e-bikes and e-motorcycles are a problem, but I'm on basically the station wagon of e-bikes.

\n\nAlthough Brigid was able to fit two bikes into the Evie, I will have to report that it took me 20 minutes and a ton of sweat to get my one e-bike into the Evie I booked to get it to REI for servicing. Thank god I was able to just bike home after the bike was serviced because I'm never doing that again.
