(she/her)\n\n🚴 Fave discipline? Enduro! It’s scary, fast, and you need to know how to read a trail on the fly. Such an adrenaline rush!\n\n🚲 Favorite bike? I love my Boltcutter Gravel bike. Sadly they shuttered their doors recently but this bike is my main steed.\n\n💪2026 goals? To get back to racing. I’ve had a lot of medical things happen the past few years which prevented me from racing.&nbsp;\n\n🧇 Favorite ride fuel? I like the Nature’s Bakery fig bars they’re easy to eat and I havent gotten sick of them yet! I also love a good stroop waffle.\n\n🔦 Most clutch gear? I love my Wahoo head unit paired with the radar taillight. Makes riding in traffic a little safer because I know when cars are coming behind me.&nbsp;\n\n💥 Worst crash? My first and I think only crash (knock on wood) was the first time I was in a road crit and I got ran into the curb. Our local restaurants were hit hard during the ICE occupation and they could use a hand. So a bunch of the Twin Cities clubs are pitching in on a whole week of programming. I came prepared with two big bottles and a cargo pocket full of gels, and it was good enough for 7th on the day. With the wind pushing close to 16 mph and a stacked field out there, I’m happy with that. I also came in way too fast one lap, damn near went over the table, lol, but I was able to get one last lap, rolling out at 5:47 with the 6:00 cutoff. That was a fun mental battle. My bike slipped out underneath me on a wood feature and I got tangled on the bike and the bridge. My arm caught in&nbsp; the bridge as I hit the ground. The one event that I was most looking forward to in 2026 was in March. I partook in the Sonoran Arizona Ultra Endurance Race (SAUER) in Tuscon, AZ. I pick this event because the Southwest was an entirely new area and climate for me. Julia, Mackenzie, Hannah, Risa and Eamon had a great day out on the course yesterday 🫡\n\nSome race reports: \n\nFrom Julia 👉 Hannah, Risa, and I worked together in various combinations, chased each other down, and had a ball. There was brutal sanity-killing wind, rain, hail, snow. I got the rock trophy, Hannah got 2nd, Risa DNFed at mile 100 bc they were about to die of exposure. Mack DNFed due to knee pain (valid) and Eamon got 3rd!\n\nFrom Mackenzie 👉 Lots of weather challenges but ultimately DNF due to knee issues. Learning to be more comfortable in high watt low gear situations on the uphill. Learned the hard way I would never choose water bladder fanny pack again. While the riding itself wasn't completely unfamiliar, the scenery sure was. \n\nBeing surrounded by 30 ft tall saguaros, jumping cholla, prickly-pear, and other pokey plants was new to me. \n\nI literally got to ride off into the desert sunset on Friday, followed by a clear night sky with some of the brightest stars I've ever seen, accompanied by an almost full moon.\n\nThe route was at times extremely technical and challenging. (Most of) the climbs were not as long or steep as I have encountered in Arkansas, but they were just as chunky and rocky. With plenty of rowdy descents. \n\nThe sand was deep and soft, forcing you to fight your way through it, often for a couple miles at a time. Staying relaxed in your upper body while putting power to the pedals in the perfect gear was the key. \n\nThe nighttime temperature drop caught me off guard. I thought I was prepared for it, until I started shivering every time I wasn't climbing uphill. I slowed my pace just to keep the wind chill down, and even cut apart my emergency blanket to line my shoes and gloves with. It worked quite well.\n\nI managed to find the only mud puddle on the entire route in the middle of the night. A dark spot in the road that I didn't think anything of suddenly stopped me in my tracks and almost threw me over the handlebars. 5 inches deep of the stickiest mud was holding my bike upright. It was comical yet extremely annoying as I had to scrape off many pounds of mud with sticks and rocks to get my bike even rolling again.\n\nI ended up going 1.5 hours over my goal time of 30, and have no hangups about it. I know the few things that I could have done better, but it was the first time in the desert and I certainly learned from it.\n\nThank you @kopeus &amp; @henley.phillips for the fun time. Well, a week or so before the race, the fomo got me, so I ended up loading up the bike, picking up my race number, and lining up in the back of the starting gate. I knew I should quit if the conditions were gnarly...\n\n...but that's where the mantra came in. Even with grooming's best efforts, there was so much new snow that the trail immediately blew up. I should have bailed right away, but I am who I am, so I was not going to send that #quitter text.\n\nStep after step, we hiked our bikes in a line. There was space to hike two wide for a bit, then it was down to single file. It was slow. For the two and a half months leading up to the race I took recovery seriously. I did some heavy duty resting, so I showed up with no fitness. I relied on muscle memory and experience, and it got me through. I tried to take it easy, but I got impatient and passed people whenever I had the opportunity, either by hiking a bit faster, or with ridiculously low tire pressure, I was able to ride past a few lines of folks. From the constant dismounting and remounting, my hips were screaming, but I continued on. \n\nI was so happy to find @buttcrackjenny at the Hugs &amp; Bacon Station! We tackled the last third of the course together, and that was a highlight. So was the beautiful snow covered trees all over the route. We crossed the finish line together mid-pack after 26 miles in 9 hours and 8 minutes. I imagine we hiked about 85% of the course.\n\nEven though I tried (mostly) to take it easy and be intentional with my movements, it was a big day and I worry that I tweaked my hernia repair. Beautiful, hypnotic, desolate country. Weird-ass local legends whose stories beg to be told (look up Old Crackfoot and Flying Monkey Mesa). My federal coworker teammates and I clung to this weekend as a bright spot at the seeming end of the tunnel otherwise known as the Longest Government Shutdown in History. But crawling in my tent the night before the race, I was slammed with the germs I thought I’d been keeping at bay that week. Bad timing. As a solid mid-pack finisher on a good day, I wanted to do my best for my team, but I knew my time on course was going to prove challenging with how I was feeling. \n\nI slotted into the team’s second lap of the day. I wasn’t able to preride the whole course, so I was pleased to only make a 😮 face when spotting a photographer and riding a drop blind at the same time. The course itself was power-heavy, with a lot of double track, sandy conditions, and seemingly endless gradual climbs. Not the funnest 13-mile circuit, but a solid course for a long race. The miles of downhill following the climb included the aforementioned drop and a chonky ledgy series of steps descending into a twisty sandy wash. There were just enough technical features sprinkled throughout the course to keep my interest and act as markers for what would otherwise have been an endless series of turns amongst desert scrubland. Not sure what racing I’ll do in 2026, though I’m quickly approaching master’s 😵‍💫…\n\nHighlights: \n❤️‍🔥 Versus kit recognized 1,460 miles from MPLS\n❤️‍🔥 Riding everything clean except a couple chunky wheel lifts I didn’t have energy for\n❤️‍🔥 Faith No More getting me through my first night lap\n❤️‍🔥 The unbelievable talent of the young riders constantly lapping me.
