You can find these all over Northeast if you have the right kind of eyes.\n\nFind this one at the intersection of Washington St, Spring St, and 5th St at the corner of Webster Elementary Sunday morning at 10am.\n\nThis is the kind of place that most people never experience, and may never even see, because they pass it in a car. But the walkers know that it’s a little public oasis, a sheltered spot amidst the pavement.\n\nThe Secret Garden Triangle is reclaimed urban land, a leftover from an imperfect street grid.\n\nPRIDE RIDE SUNDAY\n\nWe are hosting a group ride to Pride Fest in Loring Park. Ride leaves Recovery Bike Shop at 10:20am. Or be at Coffee (Outside) by 10:30am and we’ll pick you up as we head downtown to the parade.\n\nCOMMUNITY RIDE \n\nAs usual, there will be a Community Ride on the neighborhood streets of Northeast Minneapolis following Coffee (Outside) at 11:00ish.\n\nNO YOGA\n\nWe are canceling yoga this weekend (and next). All of our volunteer instructors are out of town. Sounds like a conspiracy if you ask me. 😎 \n\nSOREL’S BIKE\n\nSorrel’s ride is a sweet All-City Space Horse which Sorrel has decked out with period correct vintage and new components. The build geometry (stem extension, handlebars, seat placement, etc.) was crafted to match a different bike, the one that made Sorrel fall in love with riding again.\n\nSorrel: “It does everything I want it to do and nothing I don’t.”\n\nBut the important thing here is that Sorrel has been at the helm of Recovery Bike Shop for two full years now, two years of trial and challenges. Through this we have hammered and fought (with the challenges) to build Recovery Bike Shop into the place it is today and much credit goes to Sorrel for the bikes that we sell, the people we serve, and the crew that we have.\n\nSorrel is passionate about bikes, but it is a passion for humanity that has put Sorrel here at Reco. And that thoughtfulness and caring shows up in every decision. We are incredibly lucky to have Sorrel and so is Northeast.\n\n#IBikeNE\n#MeetMinneapolis\n#ActiveTransportation\n#BicycleCommute\n#UrbanDesign
\n\n\n

\n\n

\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n
❤️ 46 likes | 💬 0 comments
\n\n
🎵 Finale - Sam Marshall
","metadata":{"score":58,"source_feed_id":"ig-recoverybikeshop","source_feed_type":"instagram"}},{"id":"88e67d17f2bfa7cf","title":"July 4 is Diamonds Coffee Shoppe’s last day. Join us there for a quick gathering (don’t go onto the property) and then we’ll head over to Sociable Cider for the parade after-party!\n\nOh my god, I’m so excited!\n\nThank you to the @NEMpls.LionsClub for keeping the Northeast Parade going for its 97th year!\n\nSupport the NE parade at…\ncelebrateneparade.com\n\n#NortheastMinneapolis\n#Parade\n#MarchingBand\n#BestOfNEMpls\n#MeetMinneapolis
\n\n\n

\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n
❤️ 68 likes | 💬 0 comments
\n\n
🎵 Sugar Skull Parade - Scott Dugdale
","metadata":{"score":101,"source_feed_id":"ig-recoverybikeshop","source_feed_type":"instagram"}},{"id":"e5e2ab4842d9e4bd","title":"If you’ve been to our Art-a-Whirl events over the last couple of years, you’ve likely crossed paths ","link":"https://www.instagram.com/p/DZU_N49DkLJ/","author":"@sparcle.bike","published_at":"2026-06-08T14:16:45+00:00","content":"\n
If you’ve been to our Art-a-Whirl events over the last couple of years, you’ve likely crossed paths with Nick and his pretzel helmet. I didn’t plan this well (or at all), but this is an opportunity we can’t miss. So…\n\nBoom Island is hosting Beyond Walls (until it fades away), an absolutely ginormous land-mural/fresco from @saype_artiste and a small team of globe travelers.\n\nJoin us for Coffee (Outside) Sunday at 10am to see what we can see (honestly, it’s not much). But it is a happening. And it is an important project that we are more than happy to promote. With the planet as a canvas, Saype is creating a metaphorical chain of clasped hands across the entire world. Minneapolis is only the 21st destination for one of these ephemeral frescoes (created with eco-friendly materials) and the first North American site.\n\nPHOTO 1: Saype’s piece stretches across the grass behind Patrick and his Nishiki Modulus. But what you’re really looking at is a Dura-Ace track hub, a component Patrick has been riding for 3 decades. This bike, and several others over the years, has been built around the hub. All of Patrick’s bikes are quirky (to match their rider), and this is no exception.\n\nPatrick has the longest commute of anyone at the shop and today he chose to ride in on a two-speed, one of the more rare builds in the world because a two-speed tends to have all of the derailleurs but very little of the functionality. But the Dura-Ace hub makes it worth it.\n\nPatrick has more mechanic experience than most bike shops and has been in shops all over town. He’s built more of this year’s bike fleet than anyone else. We’re lucky to have him and grateful that he has chosen to settle at Recovery Bike Shop.\n\nAs always, everyone is welcome at Coffee (Outside).\n\nFree community yoga at the bike shop at 9am with @HalenAnne.\n\nAnd our weekly ride to put a presence out on the streets of Northeast starts after Coffee (Outside) around 11am.\n\n“This is what community looks like!”\n\n#IBikeNE\n#MeetMinneapolis\n#MinnesotaOutdoors\n#PublicArt\n#ActiveTransportation
\n\n\n

\n\n

\n\n

\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n
❤️ 103 likes | 💬 1 comments
\n\n
🎵 Tell Me Everything (Instrumental) - Ruby Amanfu
","metadata":{"score":141,"source_feed_id":"ig-recoverybikeshop","source_feed_type":"instagram"}},{"id":"6237d08cc2d00f63","title":"Sparcle Turns Whirlers into Art","link":"https://www.instagram.com/p/DZIMNrDjLln/","author":"@nemplsartsdistrict1","published_at":"2026-06-03T15:00:12+00:00","content":"\n
Sparcle Turns Whirlers into Art\n\nRecovery Bike Shop (Reco) owners Seth Stattmiller and Elizabeth Richardson ran a Burning Man theme camp for ten years before getting banned in 2019 (but that’s another story). This year, they mustered the motivation to restart their theme camp dreams in Northeast Minneapolis during Art-a-Whirl. Dubbed Sparcle (part spark, part bicycle), the spark quickly caught fire, and they roped in fellow campmates and other artists from the Arts District for months of planning and implementation.\n\nFor Seth, the concept was simple: a night ride during Art-a-Whirl. “For a hundred bucks, we could deck out a couple dozen riders with EL wire and some blinky lights.” Even just a handful of lit-up riders parading around the District would be pretty visible. “That sounded like fun.”\n\nread the full story by Seth Stattmiller on our website here: https://northeastminneapolisartsdistrict.org/sparcle-turns-whirlers-into-art/\n\n #mplsart #nemplsartsdistrict #nempls #mnart #mnartists #bestofnempls #MeetMinneapolis
\n\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n
❤️ 21 likes | 💬 0 comments
\n\n","metadata":{"score":33,"source_feed_id":"ig-recoverybikeshop","source_feed_type":"instagram"}},{"id":"84510318e9f02d24","title":"Group ride leaves Sociable Cider, explores the city for about an hour, and returns for free cider. But nothing he did has had more of an impact on me than Mojo Coffee Gallery, where he brought his passions (music, pottery, and most of all people) and put them on display for all to see.\n\nOf course you could purchase many of Marko’s pieces, but Mojo has that lived-in feel of a working studio where a person has shaped and been shaped by an entire career. Mojo is part retail art gallery, part workshop and rehearsal space, and entirely Marko’s playground.\n\nThe people that inhabit Mojo on a regular basis meld perfectly with the collection of mismatched dining room and office chairs, each person adding to the decor. But every time I encountered Marko here, he stood out, not like a sore thumb, but like a king, presiding (benevolently) over his own court.\n\nMojo is one of the looms upon which the fabric of community is woven. Each of us regulars, a thread in that fabric. But Marko, in that space, appeared to be the wearer of whatever cape was being woven. Even as Mojo feels like ours, it was unmistakably Marko’s. \n\nTo me, Mojo is a rare perfect third space. For Marko, Mojo may have been first, second, and third space: home, work, and community gathering.\n\nOn this Memorial Day weekend we’ll do Coffee Outside of Mojo (Sunday 10am). Of course this means the sprint just became a marathon and our little group now needs help more than ever.\n\nBut the John Cook House has a chance again. That’s because of an incredible (incredible) coalition of friends, neighbors, and community members in a growing group that has stepped forward to stand up for our history, for our city, and for our people. We are humbled, grateful, and proud. 🥹 \n\nWe are not doing this alone and we’d appreciate it so much if you’d join us.\n\nDonate money, volunteer your time, or just sign up for updates (DM me your email). Meet at 10am Sunday at the railroad bridge at 18th (just south of Broken Clock and Aki’s).\n\nLots to talk about here. This bridge would be the perfect spot for the Great Northern Greenway (18th Ave) to cross the river and connect with the greenway on the North side. But BNSF won’t allow the city to put a bikeway on this barely used rail bridge. So Minneapolis is currently in the planning phase to build the first new span of the river (in Mpls) since the 1970s.\n\nAlso, the new connector on the other side of this bridge between Broadway and 26th Ave N is FINALLY complete.\n\nAnd grab your overalls, coveralls, shortalls, (or anything else) and head to the newly completed bikeway at the Upper Harbor Terminal park at Dowling in North Minneapolis for the Overall Bridges Ride. Meet at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Rollout at 3:00 for the world’s first attempt to cross all of Minneapolis’ Mississippi River bridges (I made that last bit up). Overall Bridges is about 15 miles, but ends in St Paul, so plan for that ride home. And it’s mating season. Join us at Coffee (Outside) 10am Sunday at the heron rookery in the river just off of Marshall Terrace Park.\n\nThe great blue heron is arguably Northeast’s most majestic neighbor and one of MN’s largest birds. Herons are more progressive than some birds. Both parents incubate and feed the young. Mating pairs stick together long enough to see their fledglings leave the nest. Then it’s the single life and a few months of fishing and slaughtering amphibians before they fly as far as South America for the winter.\n\nAnd check on them again in a few weeks as the chicks begin to hatch.\n\nIncidentally, this week’s Coffee (Outside) destination comes by request. If there’s anything you’d like us to check out or something you’d like to show off, let us know and we’ll bring a bunch of people over.\n\n#NortheastMinneapolis\n#MeetMinneapolis\n#MinnesotaOutdoors\n#GreatBlueHeron\n#ExploreByBike
\n\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n
❤️ 36 likes | 💬 0 comments
\n\n
🎵 Hawaiian Love Song - Brian Withycombe
","metadata":{"score":53,"source_feed_id":"ig-recoverybikeshop","source_feed_type":"instagram"}},{"id":"052839c4ee85917a","title":"Recovery Bike Shop is where lots of people buy their first adult bike. The developer would rather see the house destroyed so he can build a parking lot. Seriously.\n\nHis demolition application is before the city council who must consider that Minneapolis law requires the owner to protect and preserve this historic property and he has failed to do this, leaving the house open to the elements and vandals for years. He thinks he can make more money by destroying it.\n\nMeanwhile there is a responsible party (us) willing to do the work to take care of this community asset.\n\nThe city has been levying fines. It has not been enough to protect The John Cook House.\n\nWe are still working to defend the house from bad developers and cut off this path to mining our city’s history. We need city council to enforce the preservation ordinance and follow the Historic Preservation Commission’s recommendation to deny the demolition application. We need this developer to be forced to sell. Then we need to put together a counter offer that will compel this developer to give up and let us take care of The John Cook House.\n\nJoin our neighbors and get involved. Write to city council. Every time we head out we are creating a visual presence on our streets. We are occupying our own community. We are fostering a sense of safety for our neighbors and giving them a path to do the same.\n\nThis is Jane Jacobs’ concept of Eyes on the Street - avenues bustling with neighbors feel safer and encourage others to be out and about.
