We’re trying something big here. Meet us behind Recovery Bike Shop after close on Saturday night May 16. At sunset we will head out to light up the Arts District!\n\nWe have a handful of surprises in store and we’re REALLY looking forward to starting a new tradition.\n\nIn the meantime, decorate your bike with every light you own. Buy some more lights now. Borrow lights from your boring friends who won’t be riding with us.\n\nOr come to the bike shop after 6:00 Saturday for free lights from us (while supplies last).\n\nThis year’s theme is Disco Cowboy. Do with that what you will. Go nuts. I know you will make us proud.\n\nRide departs at 8:15pm Saturday May 16!\n\nThis will be epic.\n\n(Also, we’re loaning out bikes throughout Art-a-Whirl. Stop by the shop to check one out.)\n\n(Also also, The Flux Arts Building (Monroe & Lowry) will help you get ready for the ride all day Friday and Saturday. Of course this means the sprint just became a marathon and our little group now needs help more than ever.\n\nBut the John Cook House has a chance again. That’s because of an incredible (incredible) coalition of friends, neighbors, and community members in a growing group that has stepped forward to stand up for our history, for our city, and for our people. We are humbled, grateful, and proud. 🥹 \n\nWe are not doing this alone and we’d appreciate it so much if you’d join us.\n\nDonate money, volunteer your time, or just sign up for updates (DM me your email). Link-in-bio\nrecovery.bike/JohnCookHouse\n\nMessage me with your email to get on our meeting list.\n\nDespite months of work, we have really only just finished the first step: our group and the owner have agreed on a purchase price. We will own the house at the end of June after inspection, more due diligence, and some serious fundraising, and only if all of it goes according to plan.\n\nWe can do this! Meet at 10am Sunday at the railroad bridge at 18th (just south of Broken Clock and Aki’s).\n\nLots to talk about here. This bridge would be the perfect spot for the Great Northern Greenway (18th Ave) to cross the river and connect with the greenway on the North side. But BNSF won’t allow the city to put a bikeway on this barely used rail bridge. So Minneapolis is currently in the planning phase to build the first new span of the river (in Mpls) since the 1970s.\n\nAlso, the new connector on the other side of this bridge between Broadway and 26th Ave N is FINALLY complete.\n\nAnd grab your overalls, coveralls, shortalls, (or anything else) and head to the newly completed bikeway at the Upper Harbor Terminal park at Dowling in North Minneapolis for the Overall Bridges Ride. Meet at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Rollout at 3:00 for the world’s first attempt to cross all of Minneapolis’ Mississippi River bridges (I made that last bit up). Overall Bridges is about 15 miles, but ends in St Paul, so plan for that ride home. Follow @MoonEyeCycles for all of the info.\n\nAnd as always, Sunday includes free yoga at 9am at Recovery Bike Shop and Community Ride at 11am(ish) immediately after Coffee (Outside).\n\n#LifeByBike\n#MinnesotaOutdoors\n#Infrastructure\n#CuteBike\n#GreenTransportation
\n\n\n

\n\n

\n\n

\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n
❤️ 47 likes | 💬 0 comments
\n\n
🎵 Theeratha Vilaiyaatu Pillai (Dingy Rock) - Spatial - Shradha Ganesh
","metadata":{"score":67,"source_feed_id":"ig-recoverybikeshop","source_feed_type":"instagram"}},{"id":"1413dba9ae022611","title":"Call it a safety walk. And it’s mating season. Join us at Coffee (Outside) 10am Sunday at the heron rookery in the river just off of Marshall Terrace Park.\n\nThe great blue heron is arguably Northeast’s most majestic neighbor and one of MN’s largest birds. Then it’s the single life and a few months of fishing and slaughtering amphibians before they fly as far as South America for the winter.\n\nAnd check on them again in a few weeks as the chicks begin to hatch.\n\nIncidentally, this week’s Coffee (Outside) destination comes by request. The developer would rather see the house destroyed so he can build a parking lot. They have a strong disincentive to under-salt because, you know, lawsuits.\n\nUnfortunately this is horrible for our plant and water life and it costs us tax money when we have to desalinate our drinking water and plant new boulevard trees, for example, because the old ones have been stunted by salt.\n\nSo bring your broom (not required, we’ll have extras) and help us protect our neighborhood from the scourge of salt!\n\nAlso meet Michelle Spangler from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization who is a salting expert as MWMO is very attentive to water cleanliness in our winter city. Bina’s is the latest addition (2 years now) on the most activated block of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District.\n\nQuincy is a street that has NEVER been reconstructed and today it thrives because of this. Indeed, Quincy and all of the Logan Park Industrial neighborhood’s brick streets, historic character, and slow cars are part of the reason for this area’s pedestrian activation. This is where the Arts District started.\n\nAnd Mpls Public Works wants to scrape it all clean for cars. These are the only shared streets in Minneapolis, the only streets where it feels comfortable to be a pedestrian. And the city sees that as a problem to be solved.\n\nWatch our YouTube video to find out what’s at stake (link-in-bio). Then come to the Public Works engagement sessions:\n\nQuincy St only:\nApril 8, 4-6pm Northeast Rec Center (1530 Johnson St NE)\n\nLogan Park Industrial full:\nApril 9, 3-4pm Microsoft Teams\n(Link-in-bio)\n\nIncidentally Alex loves working at Bina’s. “Everyone I work with is awesome. It’s probably not gonna look like this picture of Maggie by the time 10am rolls around, but don’t let that stop you! Or do let it stop you. The roads are likely to be dangerous and no one should feel like they need to go out in this. \n\nYoga at 9am is CANCELED. So he opened a shop called ‘Re-Cycle’ to help make those connections.\n \nIn 2008, @b_fuqua (a photographer + musician) was also in recovery at @Progressvalleyinc Men’s Center.\n \nHe’d go out to the garage, work on his 🚲 & think about where his life needed to go.\n \nHe started rebuilding his life, by rebuilding bikes. From personal bikes to friends bikes & then to strangers. \n\nHe quickly realized he was good at it & there was a need, so @recoverybikeshop began.\n \nBrent & Seth had known each other for a while being in the Bike Biz.\n \n‘Re-Cycle’ had been the main source of parts for @recoverybikeshop & their skillsets complimented each other nicely.

In 2013 they purchased a 15,000sq ft building off Central & Lowry in @bestofnempls\n\n‘Re-Cycle’ closed in 2014 & all their efforts went to @recoverybikeshop.\n \nWhat began as a personal turning point quickly grew into a community-powered bike shop, rooted in second chances, mutual support & dignity. \n \nThose same sentiments still hold true today & for the past 3+ years, @recoverybikeshop has hosted Coffee (Outside).\n \nA chance for neighbors to gather in community by getting outside with some ☕️ in hand.\n \nPeople are encouraged to bring their own beverage, but there are always treats to share & the location is always within walking/biking/driving distance of some great local ☕️ spots to support.\n \nCurrently, the events are focused on Central Ave, due to 🧊 presence & wanting to stand up for immigrant neighbors & local businesses.\n \n#CoffeeOutside happens every Sunday at 10a. The location changes each week & there’s no agenda besides having an informal weekly gathering with community.\n \nMake sure to follow @recoverybikeshop to see where they’re meeting next!\n\nWhat I Did:\n• Coffee (Outside) at @chimborazo_msp w/ a latte from @eastsidefoodcoop \n\nCurrent Hours:\nSun 10a - whenever\n\n#recoverybikeshop #bestofnempls #girlabouttown #chimborazo
\n\n\n\n\n
Watch Video
\n

\n\n\n
❤️ 44 likes | 💬 3 comments
\n\n","metadata":{"score":62,"source_feed_id":"ig-recoverybikeshop","source_feed_type":"instagram"}},{"id":"2cc76d4eed315b28","title":"Northeast, you fill me up. Walk starts at 1:00 TODAY!\n\nThen stick around till 5:00 for Food Not Fear! As we know, fear is bad for business. Trump’s campaign of fear has scared our customers, our staff, and our neighbors. And they are hurting. So here’s a way to help out: Eat food! You’re probably already doing it. Just do it on Central Ave.\n\nToday between 5:00 and 8:00 Windom Park neighborhood is packing Football Pizza, Hodan Cuisine, Chulla Vida, and La Colonia for dinner.
