Andy @andyanastigmat and @behindbarsbicycleshop hosted their first alley cat race Sunday July 26,2026 celebrating Behind Bars Bicycle Shop's 22nd anniversary in the Northeast Minneapolis Sheridan neighborhood. Named the 'Sheridan Quest' alley cat, racers had to locate sites throughout the neighborhood scavenger hunt style, with only the small detail photographs shown in the manifests. All 14 racers finished before the 1 1/2 hour cutoff. The two top winners Kristin and Sam were finished in 25mins using the tried and true, old school method of asking locals on the streets directions to find a location. Brilliant. There were a few strategies employed and I was very impressed at everyone's thinking and determination to finish regardless of today's extreme heat. Despite the increasing wildfire smoke causing the AQI levels to bounce up and down this weekend, a small group still attended and rode to St. Paul's @whitesquirrelbar led by Andy @andyanastigmat and Brian @brianrich612 . The heat and one flat tire were challenging but we enjoyed the route regardless and arrived to enjoy the music of fellow teammate Tony @tonytruetonethomas and his band the @sidewalk.diamonds . Wirth on Wednesday races were hosted by @handupracing and @behindbarsbicycleshop July 15th, 2026 on a very hot day with unexpectedly harsh air quality due to wildfire smoke that blew in late afternoon of the races. The final races were combined to finish earlier due to the escalating dangerous AQI levels. I struggled through my 2 lap race mostly from the heat but undoubtedly was also affected by that smoky air. I'm in awe of the racers who still braved the 3 and 4 lap race, that was a rough evening. After an hour and a half rain delay, because it down poured precisely at our original meeting time, we finally got off on our journey to Watertown with 13 committed riders. 100K round trip was the goal for this extended @behindbarsbicycleshop ride out west on the Luce Line trail. The skies cleared and we enjoyed some warm sun for part of the day. Unfortunately I got a flat and told everyone to just keep moving. I'd change it and be back moving soon. Well, I missed something sharp stuck in my tire and it punctured my replacement tube as well. I had to limp the final 12 miles into Watertown by repeatedly pumping that last tube I had up every two miles. Robin @robofet returned to me for moral and physical help with some turns pumping the tire. We got there and after a needed lunch my second loyal friend, also named Robin @l.clarkworks ,sorted out the tire/tube issues like the experienced mechanic he is. I was so grateful for his assistance. I think everyone had a memorable adventure and I was impressed with the turnout after the heavy morning rains. You're all fantastic, thanks so much for joining us. #behindbarsbicycleshop #lucelinetrail #watertownmn #adventureride #cycling

Meet at Behind Bars Bicycle Shop Sunday June 28th, 2026 by 9:15am and we'll start our journey by 9:30am. Traveling the Luce Line State Trail is a great introduction for those who want to try some longer miles mixing tarmac and gravel. Enjoy the flat countryside route out for some lunch in Watertown, approximately 32 miles from Behind Bars Bicycle Shop. Choose lunch at La Catrina Restaurante & Bar @lacatrinawatertown or grab food from the grocery next door for a picnic. We'll spend about an hour to an hour and a half for lunch then return to Northeast Minneapolis. Pace will be above average from 14-18mph. No drop ride. Full round trip about 7 hours total with 64 miles traveled. Will reschedule if weather is bad. #behindbarsbicycleshop #luclinetrail #watertownmn #groupride #cycling

To cap off Biking to Work week, we're teaming up with our neighbors over at MBP to bring some people over for a chance to check out their climbing space. They've been gracious enough to offer anybody on the ride a $12 day pass! Yes, we'll being showing up a lil late but they're open until 11pm or 10pm most nights so you can always get a lil climb in after work!\n\nAs far as the ride is concerned, we'll be doing a short little river ramble, with (maybe too many) short stops to show off some of @deep_huff's favorite sunset spots in our own little corner of MPLS. \n\nThink about those little paths off to the side of the trail you've always been curious about!\n\nMeet at @behindbarsbicycleshop @ 7pm, rolling out at ~7:20, planning on being at MBP by 8-8:20. \n\nThere's also @pryesbrewing next door, and plenty of maybe new-to-you Mississippi spots to hang out at otherwise!\n\nNo matter what, enjoy your bike, yourself, your hobby, and your neighbors (except that one). \n\nWe hope to see you on Friday!
